The Nd,Ce:YAG crystal is a YAG - based material with the addition of Nd ions and Ce sensitizing ions. Ce ions can effectively absorb photon energy in the ultraviolet spectral region and transfer the absorbed energy to Nd ions through non - radiative transitions. This increases the spectral utilization rate, and the electro - optical conversion efficiency of Nd,Ce:YAG is 30% - 50% higher than that of Nd:YAG crystals. It is the preferred material for low - repetition - rate, high - pulse - energy lasers and is widely used in fields such as small - scale laser rangefinders and laser medical treatments.
